Easily the country’s most important port, the culture and economy in Veracruz is tightly tied to the sea. Recognized for being the best place for seafood in Mexico, the state has really cultivated that advantage, and offers many local eateries where visitors can dine on the freshest and most delicious fish. And in keeping with the water theme of the area, Veracruz houses Latin America’s largest freshwater aquarium.
To go right to the source, take to the coast: Costa Esmerelda is a 31-mile strip of beach near the port and has been likened to paradise. The sandy white beaches offer a perfect setting to relax and enjoy the crystal blue water.
