Western Canada 4x4
By Chris McBeath

From grizzly bears on the west coast to polar bears on the shores of Hudson Bay, Canada’s four westernmost provinces, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, offer meeting professionals extraordinary variety. Within these provinces are large cities whose names are well known, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. There are also smaller cities, that are equally attractive for their meeting potential. And there’s the landscape. A magnificent terrain stretching across nearly 1,550 miles (2,500 kilometers), it contains ancient rain forest and desert canyons, carves through towering glacial mountains and shimmers with vast prairies of wheat and mustard.

By Christine Loomis

Bound by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska to the west; Northwest Territories and the Yukon to the north; Alberta to the east; and the states of Washington, Idaho and Montana to the south, British Columbia is immense and diverse. Snapshot: Delicious Vancouver
By Christine Loomis

Vancouver, soaring glass towers and urban-chic neighborhoods included, is informed as much by abundant nature and outdoor adventure as by city sophistication. Few cosmopolitan areas weave together these disparate influences as seamlessly as this western Canadian hub, its relatively young population as at home in trendy shops as in kayaks.
From miles of shoreline and beaches to gardens and groves of giant trees in 1,000-acre Stanley Park, to say nothing of near wraparound views of water and mountains, nature in British Columbia’s largest city is rarely out of sight. Yet to pin Vancouver only to its natural attributes is to miss the bounty of what humans have created. Arts and culture deeply rooted in First Nations traditions, as well as in Asian and European influences, present visitors with a mélange of rich, colorful and, perhaps most of all, tasty possibilities.

Simply Beautiful
By Nikki Gloudeman

What do rugged stretches of mountain terrain, dazzlingly appointed luxury hotels, striking city skylines, endless vistas of the Pacific Ocean and vast expanses of untouched wooded nature have in common?
Actually, there are two common factors: They’re all drop-dead gorgeous. And they’re all in Western Canada.
Indeed, there is something almost mystical about the singular beauty of Canada’s western side, which varies in landscapes but never in aesthetic wonderment. Locales include Vancouver and Edmonton, cities uncommonly defined by the stunning nature around them; Victoria, a harbor town that epitomizes the word scenic; Whistler, a quintessential alpine mountain destination; Calgary and its rugged cowboy vibe; the towering peaks and blue-green waters of Banff and Lake Louise; and between all these, sizable stretches of unbridled grandeur.
This rich array of striking vistas also sets the tone for memorable meetings. Host an event amid the beauty of Western Canada, and your attendees won’t soon forget it.
