Greater Las Vegas Gets A Facelift
By Chuck Kapelke
March 05, 2013
A few years ago Fitzgerald’s Casino & Hotel was not the kind of place a meeting planner would consider to host a business group. Sure, the 638-room property had a fine location at the eastern end of the Fremont Street Experience, the pedestrian mall built around downtown Las Vegas. But in keeping with its roots, Fitzgerald’s was all about the casino, and the “luck of the Irish” leprechaun theme didn’t exactly lend the hotel a corporate-serious vibe.

Quirky Nevada
By Nikki Gloudeman
August 30, 2012
Quirky” is a difficult word to peg. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines it as “a peculiar trait: idiosyncrasy.” It’s often associated with “offbeat,” “strange” or “odd.” Others link it with “unique,” though it defines something more specific than that.

Mega Mix in the Desert
By Chuck Kapelke
February 27, 2012
With more than 39 million visitors every year, Las Vegas is remarkably efficient when it comes to welcoming people into its arms, immersing them in a few days of memorable fun and business, then sending them back into the “real world.” And in many ways, that’s what a meeting planner’s job is, too. But when it comes to meetings, efficiency is only part of the story. The challenge is to pick just the right mix of ingredients that will make a program unforgettable while also delivering an effective business program that will demonstrate a clear return on investment to the client.

Few places in the U.S. are as anomalous as Nevada, and perhaps no more so than Las Vegas, which thrives on surprise. But look beyond Vegas, and the state of Nevada also defies expectations.

What Happens in Vegas...
By Nikki Gloudeman
February 28, 2011
It’s safe to say Las Vegas’ reputation precedes it. The city’s unbridled entertainment and nightlife scene, exemplified by its successful “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” campaign, is typically the first thing people think of. And to be fair, this perception isn’t off base. With its world-class headliners, glitzy attractions, endless gaming options and chef-driven dining, Vegas is a prime spot for good times—the equivalent of a playland for adults.

Reinvention is nothing new to Las Vegas. Its history can be described as a series of dynamic eras, each bigger and bolder than its predecessor, each changing its look and character.

Las Vegas: Why Las Vegas is the Perfect Conference, Convention or Meeting Destination
There are few meeting destinations on earth that can rival Las Vegas, with its seemingly endless array of dazzling accommodations, resorts, casinos, entertainment, and night life. With over 3,700 conventions hosted annually in Las Vegas, it’s clear that Sin City is an enormous draw for meetings of all sizes and industries.
Las Vegas’ history can be described as a series of dynamic eras, each bigger and bolder than its predecessor, each changing its look and character. Originally home to the Southern Paiute tribe, in the early 1900s Las Vegas was a small oasis in the middle of the Nevada desert. In the 1930s, the legalization of gambling and the construction of the Hoover Dam put it on the map, followed in 1941 by the first Vegas Strip hotel, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Planning a meeting on the Las Vegas “Strip” is sure to be an unforgettable event for attendees.. Vegas has a reputation for being a mecca of access, and is referred to as the home of the lost weekend, but it has a serious side. For corporate events that require a balance of the glitz and glamour and the natural Nevada landscape, Vegas borders some of the most stunning red rock formations in the country. Offering a plethora of relaxing pools and rooftop eateries, Las Vegas has cultivated as many assets for business as it has for play.
Whether you require a million square foot conference space in the heart of the strip or a smaller meeting venue or conference room closer to the outskirts, Las Vegas is sure to provide any meeting planner with a host of options from which to choose. But it wouldn’t quite feel like a trip to Las Vegas without a little gambling. Outside of the meeting room, stop in for a gourmet meal, try your hand at the slots, or simply take a moment to yourself by one of the hundreds of hotel pools.
They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but your attendees will likely have such a great conference, they’ll be sharing their memories of their destination meeting for years to come.
