No More GMO Food
It’s no surprise that the United States is lacking in the nutrition department, as we’re often referred to as obese, lazy and I can imagine much worse things from onlookers abroad. I mean, how does one constitute a fish filet at McDonald’s a meal? Where does this “food” even come from?
Mozzarella sticks, soda pop and Cheez Whiz are other questionable items on the American food chain. But it’s not just their uncertainties that make these foods problematic. It’s the fact that our society depends way too heavily on genetically modified organisms (or GMOs) in foods. And now one hotel is taking a stance.
The Halekulani in Honolulu recently launched an organic GMO-free menu. Chef Vikram Garg says customers have asked for such a menu and believes it’s what his customers want, especially ones dedicated to fitness and wellness. Of course, finding GMO-free foods in a nation where they’re more than readily available was a challenge. In fact, food labels are not even required to tell consumers if a product contains GMOs. As a result, Garg looked to local farms to gather ingredients for the menu.
Of course, Americans will continue to produce fake, processed food, but it’s good to know that some hotels are listening, and maybe in the future, our society will too.
