This statue, located at Auditorium Shores on Lady Bird Lake, was erected in 1994 in Austin, Texas.  Visitors can catch views of the Austin skyline and the work itself commemorates the life and music of legendary guitarist and blues singer, Stevie Ray Vaughn.  Known casually as the “Patron Saint of Austin Music,” Stevie Ray Vaughn got his start in Austin, playing at clubs like the Armadillo World Headquarters (which has since been torn down, but whose legacy lives on at Threadgill’s, which is owned by the same people).  He moved on to clubs like Antone’s, Austin’s “Home of the Blues” and then to international stardom.

The iconic statue is a draw for visitors, as it provides a great view of the Austin skyline and, in turn, a cool photo op.  It’s also in close proximity to the Congress Avenue Bridge, where 1.5 million bats take to the sky each night at dusk (April through October).

The photo found on our Web Table of Contents is of Portland, Ore. This high-flying vehicle is the Portland Aerial Tram and the snow-capped mountain in the background is Mount St. Helens. The Southwest Waterfront and the Convention Center areas in Portland are also in view, as are the bridges over the Willamette river.

The photo found on our Web Table of Contents is from Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The curving, sculptural building supports shown in this walkway were designed by a veritable roller coaster manufacturing company. This modern building offers its guests a half-million sq. ft. of contiguous exhibit space.
