From historic bones, new luxury is cast
Hotel Julian Chicago
Formerly an august bank building on North Michigan Avenue, this new luxury lifestyle destination opens this month and is named for St. Julian, patron saint of pilgrims and innkeepers. Its 218 contemporary guest rooms afford views to Lake Michigan and Millennium Park. Corporate events will be hosted at ALK Steak Bar, located in the hotel lobby.

The Row Hotel at Assembly Row, Somerville, Massachusetts
Minutes north of Boston along Mystic River, Assembly Row has evolved from an industrial past into an artistic present of dining, shopping and lodging. This new Autograph Collection property juxtaposes polished sophistication in light-filled spaces with whimsical art of glass and reclaimed auto parts. Luxury guest rooms total 158, while fully customizable event rooms can accommodate up to 300.
Maison de la Luz, New Orleans
In a graceful, filigreed building in NOLA’s Central Business District, Atelier Ace will open a “distinctive new guest house,” with patterned marble floors, French wallpaper, bespoke concierge services and guest-only library bar in spring. The 67-suite, luxurious property is directly across the street from Ace Hotel New Orleans, which offers several options for atmospheric event and meeting spaces of up to 4,000 sq. ft.
Woodlark, Portland, Oregon
Two historic buildings—a gracious 1908 hotel and an adjoining 1912 building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and once housed the city’s first pharmacy—have been reimagined as a lush, modern house of welcome with 150 guest rooms. This being Portland, expect a cup of java at check-in. The hotel features 2,500 sq. ft. of meeting space. Provenance Hotels plans a November opening.
